still cheaper than plane tickets
And better than dealing with airport security
You don't like cavity searches? I thought you loved them.
How my parents say they went to school be like lol
Awe. This was a fairly good episode. And Chise met her Great-grandma. XD Though if this was a normal family tree, Alabama 100 wouldn't cut it.
True story lmao
Those hound dogs scares me lol
assert domnance, belly rub them, win
Yeah but these dogs ain't cute, they're creepy, you won't feel like petting them.
Same here ⊙﹏⊙∥
Who knows they might all be gd bois that demands alot of pets as payment if chise has to transport some1 wounded to another region or smt
"we'll chase you and demand head pats forever" 😂
Reminds me of Corpse Party. That talisman opened up a shortcut into hell and the ghost are not FORGIVING!
I would love a proper remake of that anime, and a continuation of that game.
Wish i could use something like that to go to work lol
I think Rahab is the most powerful mage there as she is the master of Lindel and much older than Lindel and Elias. She is as powerful as Titania I guess in counterpart for the human world. Next powerful mage would be Joseph.
When Chise says “waku waku,” I can’t help but think of Anya. It’s still amazing to me how these two characters are voiced by the same person.
Right? Her depth of voice range is insane.
The power of peanuts lol
Lol yeah when I heard her saying "waku waku" I couldn't help but think of Anya. It made me wonder if someone might have joked around about it in the studio.
i missed it, when did she say it?
Right around 13:56
Looks like someone already answered.
I'm sorry WHAT!?!?!? Chise is voiced by Anya!?!?
Yeah, they have the same VA. xD
Lol I thought the same when she said that, now I can't help myself but instantly think of Anya whenever I hear "waku waku" in any anime XD
Elias: "I get really worried over Chise being in any sort of danger"
Also Elias: "Let me show you this secret back passage to school populated with demon dogs. It's way faster."
Btw, people think those dogs are most likely from Lovecraft, judging from the details. So yeah, safe.
Interesting to learn Elias imitated Rahab and that's why he's so similar to her, I've never noticed if Elias has made any feminine gestures but I guess his imitation wasn't that precise like when the two were crossing their legs, they weren't doing the same pose.
It was amusing listening to Elias talk about Chise. I liked learning why he gave Chise the necklace and makes a lot of sense since she makes him worry so much lol. But it was nice to hear from himself how much Chise has come to mean to him and how clear it is how much he cares for her.
I am guessing Chise is going to end up using an incorrect door for some reason, I'm not sure what will happen to her for her to use one but it just feels like there'll be some sort of trouble.
An interesting detail is how Rahab refers to Elias with あれ (are) - "that". Sounds a bit unsettling, but otherwise her scenes were quite wholesome.
Everything is so mysterious and I love it. Got to wonder just how much time does one travel when going through that back passage
i think you're close, but a bit off. read this one... specifically Pronoun definition 2: "(chiefly derogatory) third-person personal pronoun: he, she, that person"
en . wiktionary . org/wiki/%E3%81%82%E3%82%8C#Japanese to me it doesn't seem unsettling, merely a bit archaic or dated. Rahab is quite old and 'out of touch' i would definitely say. :) at least in modern 'English' the 3rd person pronoun is ... certainly out of vogue... this isn't Dion Sanders speaking of himself in the 3rd person utilizing his own first name to reference himself instead of I. ;) or the more... juvenile Japanese person speaking their name instead of saying I and utilizing that speaking pattern as an affectation or 'infantile' speech pattern. perhaps if you compared how Rahab refers to Chise herself WHILE they're speaking to each other that would give you a better perspective on how Rahab is referring to Elias whom is not present in the house?
Oh, I didn't know it could be used this way. Thanks
you're quite welcome, i'm glad i could help you out! :D
Are is use to refer to things or even an existence not human. So referring Elias as are is quite unsettling. Not that Rahab isn't correct cuz Elias isn't a human. But referring someone as are is quite rude, cuz it somehow depicts that they're much more low-being / low-status than them.
mkay, so by your usage it would be an inanimate object? such as a rock or a car or a house? or if your usage is for a living thing but not a human being, like a cow or a duck or a cat?
when Elias first came to Rahab's cabin to learn (i'll just use the personal pronoun 'he' for convenience's sake) he was big and only vaguely humanoid but then suddenly small, child-like, and not quite humanoid (he didn't have any feet or legs). when Elias left Rahab he was just about exactly as he appears today, obviously a triangular bodied masculine humanoid. this body type has: broad shoulders tapering to a waist narrower than its shoulders, a deep muscular chest, two legs descending from the pelvis that are lean and not 'plump' or 'curvy' like females' thighs often are, and two feet that are fairly long and not petite. i would also mention his arms are slightly longer than human average since his fingertips (when his arms are relaxed at his sides) are well below the midpoint of his thighs (where human fingertips usually end up). now, in general appearance (except for the skinless skull-head, and no eyeballs) he does appear masculine. would 'are' actually fit how Elias looks today?
as Rahab is discussing Elias in a past-tense during her recollections/stories with Chise, does this past-tense also effect/affect the usage of 'are'?
is Rahab's usage of 'are' referring to Elias using the modern form of Japanese or the antique form?
Hmmm, I'm not good with explaining things and English isn't my forte. But modern or not doesn't matter. More-like in Japanese, the modern Japanese you mean are like made-up words or incorrect usage words like yabai, shindoi, etc. Hmmm, in English like gen z? s made up words? And the are is use when referring something uncommon or not humane. Like literally things/object, event that happened, then if beings like infamous/uncommon/abnormal/crazy/unique/weird people, or something not human/e.
Like for example:
-You were in a hunted house then you saw something abnormal.
You'll say 何アレ/何だアレは / "what is/was that?"
Or maybe when you saw someone doing abnormal, unusual or funny.
-You say something inappropriate to your friend. Then you said sorry later on.
You'll say この前のアレ、悪かったよー / that last time was my bad.
-You saw some funny-looking person
何アレ、ウケる\キモイ / what s that? That's funny/disgusting
(Extremely rude. Cuz they're looking down on that person. )
Are = that
But that person is ano hito. So using are is extremely rude. If you can read Japanese just google 人の事をアレ呼ばり人
And idk about antique terms you saying, but maybe you were referring to ancient language? Even then, they uses "you" (like うぬし、うん、うむ、貴様、其方, etc that you often heard in animes and this are not used anymore in real world) not "that". Well unless they re looking down on that person or just something abnormal. Even if Elias is not human, using are is extremely rude. Cuz even non human beings are refer as ano hito as long as they're somehow look like a human. In Elias case, his build is like human except his head. I mean the shape not what's inside. Cuz Elias s inside is totally not like human. The shape of his body. I'm really not good with explaining things hehehe.
Hope that helps? ☺️
i do appreciate your efforts and understood it completely! many thanks!
yes, i did mean antique/archaic Japanese vs modern just in case Rahab was utilizing word and syntax forms from 500+ years ago. i do remember a decent amount of Japanese history and i remember the language DRASTICALLY changed at some point (but that specific point in history escapes me) especially when/after mechanical typewriters were invented and introduced into Asia.
so that 'are' would politely and normally refer to something like... 'Those blue fish over there 'are' different than these red fish over here.' especially if you didn't like how blue fish look and personally enjoy how pretty red fish are? maybe giving a mild insult to 'those ugly blue fish'? but referring to a PERSON utilizing this 'are' is quite rude and would certainly cause the other people/person in the conversation to pause and look at the person who used 'are'... suspiciously? puzzled? mildly disgusted?
that is peculiar! i didn't notice if 'Chise noticed' Rahab's word choice there. :D
thanks again! :D
Visiting "Grandma"
Visiting the in-law.
F A M I L Y lol
OHANA MEANS FAMILY
Ah louve ma Grandmah very mouch. :D
LOL. She seemed quite nice... Especially for a Demon...
One of my grandmas, was known as the evil witch of the village and the other had such a nasty streak that her husband who was most definitely a psychopath told her to calm the F down! Her habit of venting steam by maiming animals was something that crossed a line even for a notorious troublemake like him... Probably it wasn't about principles, but drawing too much undesired attention...
Granny is looking good.
Phone booths really have multi purposes…
They can be used to make calls, it’s a changing room and it also a gateway lol
it's always because they're bigger on the inside than they look on the outside... ;)
*Dr. Who BGM plays intensely*
I think this Phone Booth is playing on the "Time Machine" idea that was used couple years back. It was always assumed you'd Travel in space and time in a phone booth.
i love this show
I never expected even Elias to be taken aback after being told to swallow that shard. I thought he got everything covered LOL
Surely, taking this dangerous path to commute to the school won't lead into any problem, right? Right?
